Meet Mrs. Silva

Welcome to the CALA Library web page! I am the school librarian and have the privilege of being able to interact with all of the students. This is my 27th year in the field of education and my 10th year at Charles Acton Leadership Academy. Reading has been my favorite past time since I was a child. So it only makes sense that I am a librarian. As school librarian it is my goal to provide an environment that is conducive to learning and developing life-long learners. The library program supports classroom instruction and provides enrichment opportunities to all students.

I truly believe that reading is the vehicle that can transport the reader to a different time and a different world than their own. Students can learn about their own culture and about the cultures of others through literature in order to be culturally competent in this culturally pluralistic society.

I am a strong believer that everyone can learn as long as they are willing to work hard and dedicate the time to learning. This belief has been the driving force in my life since I was a young child who accompanied her parents in the fields of South Texas till this day that I have 3 children of my own.

“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.”- Abigail Adams
